Smoke and steam to help save the Connie
Christian Bergmaier, one of our event coordinators, came up with a unique idea to help save the Connie. Christian asked Thomas Frieden (steam train "Pacific 01-202" association), Maurice Decoppet ("ABVL"- Association des Amis des Bâteaux à Vapeur du Léman), and Ernst Frei (SCFA) to set up a fundraiser to help save the Connie.
On October 29, 2017, a special SCFA steam train will depart from Lyss (at 0942) and from Bern (at 1009) to Lausanne,
where we will board at 1230the Belle-Epoque-Steamboat, "La Suisse". The steamboat association has added this special trip (regular steam boat season ends one week prior) in order to help support efforts to save the Super Constellation. Included in the steam boat trip is a three course lunch.
Thomas Frieden already received approval from the Swiss railway association for the proposed steam train route. Oldtimer train cars on the BLS train have been reserved, and the CGN have approved Maurice Decoppets request for the steam boat. We are looking forward to a wonderful fundraising event.
The return trip from Lausanne onboard the steam train will be at 1738, arriving in Biel at 1924, and in Lyss at 1942. Transportation to Lyss or Bern for the departure in the morning, as well as transportation from Biel or Lyss in the evening is the responsibility of each individual participant.
The entire event is offered at a special patrons cost of CHF 395 (the cost of a 45-minute Connie sight seeing flight). CHF 200 of each ticket will be donated to the Save the Connie project. There are 200 seats available, sold on a first come, first served basis.
This event is open to non SCFA members and members alike; please spread the word via friends, family, social media, etc.
Along with the members of the board, I hope to see many of you at our "Steam and smoke to help save the Connie" event
